350i restoration project on Ebay

Nothing to do with me, though someone on here might know it. Supposedly been parked up 15-20 years (and looks it).

Refurbed alloys and appears to have good tyres so maybe someone started then lost interest.
Interior complete but needs carpets.
Cranks but won't start (but that's probably a ten minute fix like they usually are). Most likely stuck injectors.
Ebay sent me an offer so if you 'watch' it you'll probably get the same - about £300 off. Whether it's worth it to you is another matter - I know it was traditional to b!tch and moan about wedge prices but times have changed, there are more of them in breakers than ever before so if people don't start saving them they'll be even rarer. Maybe don't think in terms of concours, just useable - even the later cars will very soon be eligible for historic status (unless you-know-who has other ideas).
If I had the space I'd be tempted for a retirement project. Luckliy it's too far from me to be tempted into 'just looking'

Further to my remark about my mate's Lotus earlier... several years ago he'd transferred a pre-'63 registration from an old Ford Popular to the Elite (which of course has been a 'historic' for a decade or more).
He'd decided not to bother rechassis-ing the car but to sell it as a project, once he'd taken the reg. off it and put it on a modern motorcycle instead.
The usual rule is, of course, that you can't transfer a reg. number from a car unless it has a valid MOT. He reasoned that as the 'historic' Elite doesn't require an MOT to be useable, there wouldn't be a problem.
He was wrong.
Apparently there's a 5-year limit from the point a vehicle gets 'historic' status to the owner being able to transfer the plate off, without an MOT.
So now he will have to rechassis the car in order to get an MOT in order to transfer the plate off, to then sell a car that was never particularly popular and even now doesn't command high values...

I hadn't expected there to be a 5 year allowance, but I did know that an MoT would be needed. It's to prevent transfer from a box of bits or even just an old V5c. 
I suppose he needs to weigh up the value of the number plate first. Many are grossly over valued and the market is awash with them now.
