powersteering 350i fhc

good evening everybody,
recently i bought a 350i fhc with big sound (you know it) and brought it to germany. the baby is running great but the power steering is leaking, leaking a lot...
the fluid is running out. i don´t think it´s a problem of the pump, the car has covered 100t miles and the steering has to be replaced.
i guess the steering is from a granada (last series??)
my car is an 85 first series (?) and of course a rhd.
what is easier to find a new/used power steering or i do not realy need a power steering, i can easily live with a
basic steering. as i need it for a rhd car it´s not easy for me to go to a breaker in germany.....

can anybody help with parts, part no´s, adresses etc...?

It's a little difficult to know where to start as you haven't said where the fluid is leaking from. There is probably no point in replacing everything on the power steering system, just the leaky bit. If it's hose you'll probably be able to get a replacement from a factor in Germany. The same may be true for some of the 'non-handed' parts. If it's something that's peculiar to a RHD car, then let us know and I'm sure there is somebody on here that can identify the source. Your first course of action is to identify what's broken.

the fluid is running out of the steering rack gaiters.
perhaps it´s only a bearing, but if the steering is leaking at this place it would be difficult to change only the bearing !!! ?????

You can search the archives on the pluses and minus (and feasibility) of PAS or not.

However, I would expect that once you take the rack is off, it should have part numbers and could be reconditioned since it's likely that only the seals have gone. Good luck. Grady
