Lifting the beasty

OK, my currant jack does OK, trolly type. Halfords cheapy one many moons ago. But its not what I feel a good one. Anyone use one that gives a good easy lift with limited space.

Also ramps. The set I have are narrower than the wheels and a bit dicy on getting up. Are there any good wide ones people are using?


Also, bear with me, jacking on a slope a no no, could ramps be used if I was to drill holes in the sloping drive and anchor them and suitable chocks?

Budget: Clarke CTJ 2Q

This jack was neatly styled and well made. Although average in many aspects, its price was good and the 60mm saddle was joint second-biggest in class. The main plus point was that it took only a single stroke to reach the working height, and only three to reach its maximum of 370mm. This massively practical element made it our Recommended budget buy.

Premium: SIP Omega 3 Tonne Rapid Lift

With the lowest starting point and the highest lift, this Omega had its rivals on the ropes from the start. What's more, the Rapid Lift took us to working height in less than one stroke. A 120mm saddle was reasonable, if a bit of a disappointment compared with others here, and it didn't have a rubber cover. But at £58, it had enough of everything else to make it our pick for premium Best Buy.

Guess it depends how steep, but I don't see any particular problem driving down onto the ramps. Just don't try to drive off the other side, I have visions of the ramps tipping up if you push too hard against the end stops ...
