Hi all
Ive got a bit of a problem with the Tiv,
Well it started with a lumpy running engine so I looked into changing the cam, the cam was shot...
Stage 1... new kent cam, pullies and chain, rocker arms all round and tapets...Good...put car back togeather, timing done rebiult dizy to boot and a engine tune... car running to for a ahort time then it started to burn water, so inlet mamfold back off and a new gasget adn at the same time had the radator recored, once againe put car back to geather and it was running realy rough, tracked it down to cylinder 1, turned out to be a broken iner valve spring on the inlet side, once againe car striped slightly and i changed all the valve springs with out taking with our taking the heads off...very cool tool for doing the job.
So now the car is back togeather for i hoping to gring it to BBWF  and gess what the car is running like a bucket of bolts.
Prob 1, it seems to have a miss fire but all the spark plugs are good, HT leads are good and are getting a spark but the realy puzzeling part when you start the car for the first time from cold the car seems to only fire on 2 cylinders, one per side and pressing on the throtle make no difference at all...:scratchchin:

Now this may have some baring on things, some time the radio dosnt switch on or the windows wont go down, i take this to be an earthing problem, so would it be posible that the ECU is getting a bad earth and if so could this cause a host of interesting problems with the engine not idling or missfire....

Sory for the lenght of the post but in slowly loosing the will and i verly could do with support in my never ending fault finding quest..

Thanks
Campbell
Would it be ok to come to the BBWF with out the Tiv :bounce:

Yours is a different model ECU to mine, but when I had an ECU earth fault on the V8S it went completely bonkers, sometimes it would fire but not run, sometimes down on power, sometimes seemed fine. From your description I think you're right to be looking for an earth fault.

You have remembered to put the injection system earths back onto the rear of the lefthand cylinder head, haven't you...

Sure those are the injection earths? They come out of the same loom as the injectors, but as I understand it the injectors are earthed via the ECU. The coolant and fuel temp senders are in the same loom, it may be that the earths are for these.

Agree on earth leads, but please check the coolant temperature sensor as it is notorious (as my 350i had) for producing some strange engine syndromes.

Peter:
Yes, the injectors are earthed to fire them; the injection loom is separate from the main loom on the car and there should be two or three earth leads (one's a thick one) that are bolted to the rear of the l/h head.
Obviously the engine also needs a good earth to the battery, there should be an earth strap from the battery to the r/h cylinder head.

Another thing to check is the resistor pack and its connections.

Of course. But please park the car down the far end with the non-tvr's in front of the hotel reception, as we're really short of room.

Better than that - trailer the SEAC down and get it diagnosed, maybe even fixed - all the experts will be there

Thanks for the advice chaps and Tallbloke i have my own lump hammer

I think the prob is with the air flow meter, i have the hydro carbons tested, over 1500 and the mechanic traced it down to this...the car is just porring out fuel out the back and washing the boars out of any preshis oil that is needed.
Ive got the meter off to Lukas for service and should be getting it back soon but will still be coming down with the Jag and ill park out of the way from well needed places but not in shame
See you all soon
