Applying waterseal to the hood

When applying water proofing to the hood, is it best to take the targa top off and do this seperately?

It can save drips on the paint work I suppose? I put it on with the targa in place.

Makes no difference?

I was just thinking it might be easier with the targa top off to apply it to the edge where it meets the rear hood.

Does it matter if any of the sealant gets on to the rubber seals?

I used Thompsons and managed to get it everywhere. Car hasn't rotted away yet Keep a wet rag to hand?

Had to use tar remover where I got the odd drip on the paint work. Next time I gaffered news papers around the hood.

If you are brushing it on, you can get splashes on your interior if you take the targa top off and then try and do the rear hood section without replacing the top. Even worse with black renovo - been there, done that

I took the centre section out on mine, put it on my black and decker workmate and painted Fabsil on it. The rear section was then painted too but I masked off the paint work. This allowed me to cover all the nooks and crannies of the roof. Took me no longer than 20 minutes to do each coat.

Easy as that !!

Only problem you have is water beading on the roof which readily rolls off the roof and through the open window when the car is steamed up inside !!! (due to damp weather conditions and not nookie, I might add !!)

How long does the thompson water seal take to dry?

Just wondering if I can apply it this evening, if the roof has dried out by then (I'm assuming the roof needs to be dry).

(would look at the can, but its at home)

I did an evening application then re applied the next morning. Tin is not really clear other than drying times vary due to surface and temperature etc.

PS, stinks to buggery for a while as well.

Just checked out the weather forecast and doesn't look good - severe rain up to friday So just ran out and put a layer of Renovo colour on mine, just hope it dries quick enough to get the water-proofer on :everything crossed:

The roof is now water proofed - hopefully it will help and not rain for a while.
