The last time I had the fluid replaced in the clutch res the guy who did it cannot remember if he put in 5.1 or Dot 4.

Assuming he put in 4 and I then top it up with nothing fancy 5.1 (or visa versa) will this be a big issue or will it simply reduce the boiling point of the fluid to the lowest common denominator ie. the dot 4???.

Shouldn't be a problem. The 5.1 has a slightly higher boiling point, but for the clutch that shouldn't be an issue.

Well I was talking to the guy down the local garage and he reckons that if the system is full of whatever 5.1 or 4 then these will mix ok together if I put the wrong one in to top it up.

Just checking thats all. Noticed it was down a little in the clutch res.

Yeah it's only the silicone stuff that doesn't mix, is that 5.0?
