Exhaust Box Mod

Has anyone cut open the exhaust box and removed the wadding then welded back up? Does this improve the exhaust note (or make it sound naff)?

On the Chim gassing it’s a well known trick to do this and the general census is that the exhaust sounds really good.

They also sleeve them inside the box on the chims, but I assume the cats do some muffling.

I've recently done this on mine, wasn't too difficult and yes its now a bit quieter but it doesn't buzz and rattle either, as the old wadding was mostly gone and the remains were melted into little glass beads...

I'd have thought he wants to remove the wadding to make the exhaust note louder?

Not really
The main reason I took the box apart was to cure the nasty 'sizz and rattle' sounds, the overall decibel level didn't bother me

I even say the note has improved once its been re-packed, although its now slightly quieter

Had this very thing done on my old 350 by 'Austec'.
The car sounded different, thats for sure...but not so loud to be embarrassing.
Mucho popping and banging too!

Depends on what lights your candle i s'pose. I liked it.

I'd leave it alone as you can get some funny resonances at certain revs under open throttle.

loud exhausts are fine but you can experience a lot of over run as well which can be tricky in built up areas...particularly in this warmer weather
