Beloved Wedge going...

Following the arrival of my SEAC, our beloved 400SE is shortly going up for sale. Will post formal ad in classifieds in next day or so but want to put some feelers out on the forum - Black, 33k, J reg, v reliable etc etc. will be looking for around £8.2k. Any takers?

Jamie tell me about what you think about the difference between the 400se and the seac. Only driving differences, the shell is not in quistion. In my eyes the best ever made in the world.

Difficult to say at present - SEAC in garage after failing to start/fuel pump not working. Once AA man got the thing running , it then refused to idle - so i think a trip to the nearest specialist garage is required. On the test drive/ and drive home the SEAC pulled far harder than the 400 , also breaks a lot better on SEAC - I know they have been upgraded. Can't comment on much more - still it looks awesome in the garage...

I am looking around for a wedge at the moment. I don;t intend to buy just yet as I am waiting for the right car at the right price.

However, I would have thought that £8k is high.

My reason for this is that I see many 350's not getting close to £5k and I cannot see a 400 being nearly twice the car.

I think your only hope is a commited wedge owner who wants a bigger badder wedge. I would certainly not pay that much for my first wedge until I knew how much fun I would get.

I am aiming for paying £3.5k for a 350i S2 at some point in the next 6 months (winter is a good time to buy a soft top).

I hope for your sake I am wrong but I thought you might want a buyers perspective.

Must admit that I've not looked at Wedge prices lately, but as I'm sure you know by now, there is no such thing as " Its an '89 350i, with 50K miles, therefore it must be £6K." Age and mileage are not as important as condition. If you do find an S2 350i for £3.5K, then chances are that it will be a dog, and may need some £k's spending on it getting it sorted, even doing some things yourself. Not at all trying to put you off joining Wedgedom, but IMHO its better to find something thats been looked after by someone with a bit of mechanical sympathy. As for the differences between the different models, when we changed from a 280i to a 350i, it wasn't just an additional 30BHP or the bigger jump in torque, but the V8 noise that made a big difference. Going to a 400 was, for me, a much bigger jump than the previous change. Bear in mind also that, whatever the numbers of cars originally built, some will no longer exist over the course of years, so you're looking at less than 1500 (?) 350i's and less than 240 400se's. The rarity of the bigger engined cars is one factor that makes them worth significantly more than the 3.5l cars. So if you're fussy on body / interior colour, it could take some time. The market is so thin that without actually seeing every car on sale, it can be very difficult to judge whether a price is good or not. As for buying in Winter, some owners hibernate their cars (not me) to avoid the ravages of the weather and road conditions.

I think you 8.2k price is realistic.. it's a late model (J plate) low miles.. so seems fair.

I think the price is about right, if you want a cheap Wedge thats fine so long as you are handy with the spanners otherwise it could well turn into a money pit.

Personaly I wouldn't sell mine for less than £9,500 so its a good job I plan on keeping it

i recentely paid 7K for a h plate done 42000. needs a bit of work to get it how i want it(including a clutch) but overall i think i did quit well as most seem to be 8k+. sold my 390 last year for 5.5k & they are still fetching that price now

The 350i prices seem to vary the most. On classifieds at moment there are 350is priced between £3750 and £6500. God knows what I would price mine up if I came to sell it.

Part of my philosophy with cars like this is: If you can't fix it, you shouldn't be driving it.
Now whether 'fix it' means you get your hands dirty, or like quite a few guys who have pots of shekels, you pay someone else; accept that either way it is a commitment, in time and/or money.
