the diode in my fuse board of my 85 350i has fallen to bits and i think is the reason for my battery to go flat:-( can any help me by telling me what it does?? and what sort of diode it is??

Any help is really appriciated

Its to do with the lights.

Under maintenance tab at the top and look for the headlight explained bit.

Battery going flat can be another matter. How quickly does it go flat and do you have a multimeter?

PS, not sure what it is but wedg1e (I think) answered a simular question a short while ago. Try a search on the forum.

Any diode called a silicon rectifier, rated at more than about 1.5A will do. Typically a '1N4000' series diode, but eg 1N5401 will do as well. Usually there are two or even three...

cheers lads!! probably the altanator if its not this diode or i've left a light on but noticed this diode had fallen to peices any idea what the diode in the fuse board is for?? out of interest...

Usually they are part of the control circuit that pops the headlamps up: see if yours still work

the diode is not in and the head lights do pop up but come to think of it the engine would cut for a secound just thought it would be the low battary because i had only just bump started it!!

the plot thickens!!

And (if like mine) they can be anywhere! - Streaky
