400se what static timing be?

What is the static timing on a nonhotwire 400se? Just checked mine with a strobe light,distribitor pipe blanked off and a idle of 900rpm and it showed 2 degrees btdc.I know a 350 is 8 btdc,should it be the same,it might explain why the 400 is flat above 5000rpm. :confused:

Sometimes the timing gets changed to pass the MOT emissions. Mine was set to about 8 or so as a 4.0

Not sure what we managed in the end on the 4.5. to get a smooth idle, but still has lots of ommph with no pinking throughout, but dies above 5k

Disconnect the vacuum advance and plug it with a pencil or screw. Then adust the dizzy by hand to say 8-10 degrees mechanical advance. After that reconnect the vac pipe and do a test drive. Extra advance will improve bottom end sharpness but to much will make the engine pink. I ran an rv8 with so much static advance it would give me starter kickback but it would also light up the tyres! I had to knock off a few degrees.
