Just had a new starter motor (well actually the old one re-built) on my cosworth V6 tasmin fhc after the old one kept sticking. And guess what? It still won't start. Didn't even last one journey..........and ideas? I know it sits under the exhaust manifolds and gets a bit warm but surely it should last a bit longer then that!

Had exactly same fault on my 450SE would not turn over when hot, left for 5 minutes to cool and starter worked, you have to wrap in heat sheild material. I beleive its something to do with the solenoid slider and components being made of different metals and therefore heat expansion rates are different.
Was suggested to me you can strip soleniod assembly down and make assemble fit and slide together better.

:Thanks for that. It fits the symptoms to some extent as the car was fine today.....until I tried to start it again once I got home just to test it. No joy. The motor is wrapped in heat shield but that seems to have little effect. And it is running unusually hot, strangley hottter at mtorway speeds that in traffic. Can't be right.
