Gear Knob problem

Just taken delivery of a nice new shiny gear knob for my 89 350i, but can't for the life of me get the old one of. The existing one is a wooden momo one. It turns around, but doesn't come off, and there doesn't appear to be any allen key thread to undo. Any ideas please, fellow wedgers ?

Sure it hasnt got a small piece/ring on the bottom of the gear knob that unscrews to reveal an allen key grub screw? Mine does that...
