I think the recommended figure is below 100 lb-ft, 60-80 rings a bell but don't quote me. I just do them up as tight as I can using about 8" of leverage and it works out about right, not very scientific but it works for me. It will take considerably more than this to undo them again so make sure you carry a long enough spanner to enable you to undo them in the event of a puncture, otherwise you will be stuck.
Sounds about right, all my Alfa alloys were supposed to be done at 60Nm... ( 40 lb.ft = 54 Nm )
Of course, if you have lubricated the threads in any way, such as with copper slip you will need to increase the handbook figure significantly, to say around 100 ft.lb. to retain the same bolt tension.
