Tie-rods/arms

Hi,

Excuse my ignorance (Wedge novice) but when my mechanic was looking under the body he noticed that the tie-rods/arms at the back wheels were slightly bent on each side. He said he didn't know whether this would make much difference as he isn't a TVR specialist (a rv8 specialist, stag etc he is). So, what's the situation with these fellas?

Is it an trailing arm suspension (I'm assuming it is).

Bent tie bars are bad news I'm afraid, the effectively form part of the lower wishbone (with the trailing arm). I'd get them changed as they'll alter the rear suspension geometry.

Sounds like he has a 350SE in which case it's an A-frame but even so this advice

Been to Kwik Fit recently? My bet goes on numpty with a trolley jack in wrong place, mine were!

The tie-rods (or torque reaction arms or whatever you want to call them ) on my 390 are also bent, about an equal amount each side, right on the threaded adjuster at the chassis end. However it runs straight and doesn't scrub tyres off so I leave it alone (for a change )

How much would it cost to replace these sods? I don't know whether it's worth it................what do you reckon?

Bend 'em straight. Any motorcycle workshop capable of straightening a forg leg should be able to help.

If it's a trailing arm setup (big box section arm coming diagonally from the centre of the car to the hub), those are the bottom links at the very rear. I had one bent on my very first wedge after a prang. The garage straightened it up and there were no problems with it after that.
