New keys???

Ive got my 400se today (as im sure everyone knows as ive been raving on about it!) but im a bit worried ive only got one set of keys and alarm fob.

I saw badredwedge today as he lived round the corner from where i bought my wedge, and he said that my alarm and immoboliser is the original tvr one...the rubber has snapped off it so i cant attach it to my keys and if i lose it ill be buggered!

Any ideas if they can be replicated? Also, can the Ford keys be copied?

As far as I know alarms/ immobiliser weren't factory fitted in the wedge days, so I doubt it's 'original'.

Ford keys, with the flats, at ford. If the barrels wear they can be re built, we have the technology.........

Greetings matt-man, I had the same problem when I got my 350i. I went to visit my local key cutter and he was able to supply both door and ignition keys for just a few quid each. I also had only one alarm fob and one key for the alarm box. My wedge is fitted with a Foxguard alarm system (I believe they became or were taken over by Toad alarms) after asking around I got put in touch with Key Solutions (this was back in 1999) who are now I believe Bridgewater Electronics (link below-hope it works) They were very, very helpful on the phone, were able to supply a new alarm fob tuned to match the one I had and a new lock and keys for the control box, all for a very reasonable £25.50!!

Have a very careful look to see if there are any reference numbers anywhere on your system (even if it means unbolting the control box to look underneath) Give Bridgewater Electronics a call and if 'anyone can' I'm sure they will. They deal with all sorts of alarm makes.

One final comment, if ever I purchase anything to do with vehicle security, I do not use an address where the vehicle is kept or parked on a regular basis.

Hi Matt, glad you got it home in one piece. Your alarm fob is the same as the one I had with my 400. It was to a Piranha alarm which I removed. (If you search this forum for Pirahna you will find the thread) As for keys they are both standard Ford and I got a pair cut for £10 at the local cobblers.

Foxguard were just box-shifters like so many alarm companies in the early 90's. You could buy exactly the same unit badged as a Foxguard, a Sterling or.. dammit I forget the other... IIRC Toad started off with a hidden camera system that would take photos of the scum breaking into your car (so you could give them a good kicking... er, hand the evidence to the Police. No doubt digital pictures are inadmissible though... ) but it's entirely possible they bought the Foxguard brand too.
Datatool was another: they distributed bike alarms from a place in Hampshire. When we went down to take their so-called installers' training course, I tok down the circuit diagrams that I'd drawn from tracing the circuit board. Interestingly, their UK service engineer had never seen a circuit of what was supposedly 'their' product... if they got a faulty one, they chucked it in the bin and sent out a new one. I suppose it worked out cheaper that way.
I still have all my notes from the older systems, but I see several people on Ebay will sell you the information now....

BadRedWedge has stated your alarm was a pirana? (very common in the late 80's / early 90's). You could look on ebay and see if you can pick a like alarm remote control fob up and simply put the innards from yours inside it.

If you cannot find it on ebay, post pics here and let fellow wedgers have a comp to decide what alarm you have (although careful as theiving scum can use this info too).

As a last resort, if you have a good alarm retailer near you, you may be able to pick up a similar alarm foba and have the retailed reprogramme it for you?

Should be an easy one to sort.

Good ideas guys.

Long as i can get the ford keys done then thats the big one for now. If not, ill have try and get another fob...like all this stuff, its possible but easier when you know how!!!
