Off too my local scrappy tomorrow to try and get some bonnet struts that hold the bonnet open.
Am I right in remembering that Cavalier boot ones may do the job - or should I stop with the drugs and get back to reality ?
Tried Astra ones as there was an Astra lying about at the workshed, but didn't do the trick and the Maserati didn't seem to have struts

Should be 100N force. I heard a long time back that the early Rangey used them on its tailgate glass but when I tried a Rangey breakers in Derbyshire all they had were 230N IIRC.
I just found out the hard way that using too high a force ram can be destructive when I opened the Esprit's tailgate and one of the struts ripped the mounting ball clean out of the tailgate, along with the internal steel rib that it's screwed into, and a large patch of GRP. I'd never bothered to check until then but it turned out the one that ripped out was 500N. The other side? 290N.

Most of the struts require an allan key to let the gass out if there are too strong, ive had to put new ones on the SEAC and Taimar but the SEAC will need new boot ones soon, too soft now, the beas way to open the valve a little and for only a second at a time then test the tention while they are on the car, when you think they are just a little to stron take them off and compress them into the floor to see if the pressure is even, if not a just the stronger of the two then they will proberly be about right i think.

Aye, sometimes they can be a bit faint or maybe rubbed off altogether. Usually theres a maker's name, a part number etc and the rating, about 4/5mm text...
