Filler cap

Hi , anyone know what car the the filler pipe on a mk2 350i comes from as I only have a rubber bung type cap on MOH the pipe measures 60mm and the universal locking caps I have found are all for 80mm pipes I need to get this sorted as the smell of optimax in this hot weather as it evaporates is realy upsetting . Ian

Got a sneaky feeling (remember a thread on this a while back) they are 2.5" as fitted to Norton BSA motorbikes.

Not heard that before; who knows. The locking filler caps and the neck are TR7, as is a lot of the rest of the car.

My early FHC had locking caps off a scimitar, but my wedge has a BSA motorbike one - I found a guy selling replacements for £60 ! but he also sold new cork gaskets for £2 so guess which I got?

Thanx Dicky would never have thought of looking @ bikes , none on there at mo but it looks like Mike maybe my saviour anyway.

Mind you, they all smell a bit, mine is the same, it's due to the breather pipe.

I believe tvrcarparts.com sell them. Mike may be right, don't be too sure that replacing the cap will fix the problem, is it throwing fuel out whebn the tanks are full to the brim??? The breather pipe goes from a take off at the filler neck through the boot to a hole somewhere in the boot floor. It may be this that is causing the smell.

And the seal between filler pipe and body can wear. If you overfill petrol goes onto the body.... Don't ask why I know. The amount spilled and picked up by the body will last a week or so. And hard cornering with full tanks is another way of spilling petrol (tadts), and therefore it is adviced before tracking the wedge not to fill up over like 80%.
