whistling 350i

when i accelerate the car seems to wheeze and whistle, thought it was the wife cos shes getting on a bit but alas no it is the v8 lump in front, runs fine though.
also when i let off the accelerator, i get loads of popping out of the exhaust is this normal on a tvr 350i it has a twin pipe arrangement

Don't know about the whistle - sure you haven't got a turbo fitted?
You could try looking is the air filter is blocked or if it is having difficulty in sucking air in?

As for the pops and bangs from the exhaust, this IS normal & have the fun of having a non-hotwire wedge.

Air leaks around the plenum, pipe come off somewhere? Is the vacuum pipe connected to the regulator behind the plenum?

i noticed there is no gasket on the plenum, i.e the bit that screws down with 6 allen bolts is this right?

That's normal. Sometimes you see a bit of sealant round there.

Mine whistles too, but it is an SX...

Actually one thing just occurred to me - it might be the alternator. If the bearings are on the way out they can make some funny noises. Usually after a run, because they get hot and bothered.

thanks chaps my alternator is noisy as is the water pump so i will check this, and the insulation must be close as the breather pipe was getting squashed before i altered it.
