Airflow meter

I've read the airflow meter can be replaced with a Lucas Jaguar one, is there a specific model that's used and what kind of price they would normally cost new? (For a hotwire 3.9 engine)

ARe you talking about the flapper airflow meter, or the hotwire? I've seen pictures in Steve Heath's book on the wedges showing a couple of different types of flapper, but I doubt that they are direct plug-in replacements and you may need to make other wiring or map changes to the engine management system to get it working properly.

There's a Bosch one which is a common upgrade. It requires a small wiring change, and a rescaled fuel map. Mark Adams sells them as a DIY kit, but he'd need to know what map you have first. If it's non-standard you might need to send the chip to him, or have him set it up on the rollers. Anyway, Mark is the ideal person to ask about it.

Thanks. I'm thinking of talking to Mark Adams about getting the car setup properly on a rolling road.

There's a jag airflow meter about to finish on ebay at the moment, just wondering if it might have been a good buy:

The Jag AFM is a direct replacement for the original with no wiring changes needed. But this is a flapper type not Hotwire.
Mark Adams is definitely the man for the remapping etc.

Chris I have one in the Garage I was going to try it on the 400 but not got round to it yet, its looks just the same as the 3AM thats fitted as standard. If you want a loan to try it out just let me know.
I have no idea what difference it will make or if you have to do something else to the set up

No Lee the one you have out on hire is a 3AM Standard, I have a 5AM one still at home, in fact Wifey says I have a workshop full of stuff that I may never use
