searching speedometer drive (gearbox) for 280i

the plastic gear (the part that sits inside the gearbox) on my speedometer drive is worn. anybody knows, where i can get one? the no. on the gear is "74 GT CA 3", it has 18 teeth.

Sorry can't help but I believe the colour is useful for identifying the correct part (ratio). You may have counted the teeth correctly but it's a good cross-check.
Hope that's in some way useful

the color is white.

my ford dealer showed me one which was grey and the measurements (shaft diameter, gear width) was totally different. he checked also in his old micro-film, but such a ford-no couldnt be found...only related ones.

I got one this summer for a local elderly 280i FHC owner from Marshall Moore in USA. e-mail cmw-tvr.com.
I believe Marshall had some more in stock at that time.

mr. moore offered me one for 39.50 dollar, plus shipping....maybe these parts are quite rare, but i´m not willing to pay such an amount for a stupid plastic part inside my gearbox. better driving without speedo...hehe....if i get cought by a speed camera, i will have a nice excuse!!!

here another question: is this part made for TVR "exclusivly" or was it a standard ford-item?

went to another local ford dealer..and amazingly: he found the gear i needed!! not available from the ford-stock but all the ford-garages have the possibility to search for parts, listed nationwide by other ford-dealers.

cost 25,-euro and its new!! delivery 1week. lets see next week if it fits from the dimensions!!! i will let you know.
