Try and get some traders quotes, some will do you a part time traders policy which will allow you to drive anything up to £5000 value. Some allow fibre glass bodied cars some don't. Had a quote this year, about £6-700 for me and the wife to drive, so covering three cars, hers, mine and the TVR. Worth a try.
Ended up doing them separate, as the classic policy only came in at £210 for Trev. Got the two pugs done for £270 all in. Pays to get a bit older sometimes.

when i was under 25 and had a 13 year old tasmin at the time (god i'm getting old) i put the car in the g/f's name, she insured it as a classic and i drove it 3rd party on my daily commuters insurance, not sure if its still the same but i did check at the time that even though i was fully comp on a 1.4 fiesta i could still drive a group 20 car 3rd party. insurance company said no problem.

Borrox.
It goes on the vehicle, not YOUR age.
I had my Triumph Sh1tfire on a classic policy when I was 23.
Footman James worked out best for me (I'm only 30)
3k miles per year, 400se, garaged, 2nd car for just under £200 per year FC.
I'd try one of the Adrian Flux group of companies that do classic insurance too as they have been very good with my 20 year old brother...
Good luck
From what I have observed over the years they change the "rules" as and when they feel like it and different companies adopt different policies depending on what market they are aiming at. Every time you hit a milestone age, where the price had been racked up because you were beneath it, somehow the costs seem to rise such that you end up paying the same or slightly more!
It is well worth while spending a few days shopping around, you could save yourself a fortune. Think laterally get quotes for classic, trade, multi-vehicle and any other types of policies you can think of but make sure you are legally covered there's no point in saving a few hundred quid to get caught out on a technicality leaving you uninsured the prices your balking at now would seem like peanuts compared to what you'd get quoted after being done uninsured!
Without being argumentative ask the agent exactly what justifies the extreme price tag and if there is any way you can combat this. e.g. Club membership, advanced driver training, Thatcham approved alarms, multi-buy discount on policies (house contents plus car policies = discount) Employee discounts, limited mileage, only insuring the vehicle for part of the year. Does your bank provide an enhanced (pay) account which includes discounted motor insurance. Believe it or not your job title also affects your premium for instance "reporter" will add a naught at the end but I don't know what are premium friendly job titles, if anyone knows post it up and I'll change my job, title at least!
It is also worth while pointing out your experience in driving high performance vehicles safely which is demonstrated by your full NCD being achieved whilst driving such vehicles.
Above all else, do whatever you can to keep Wedging and don't let the bastards grind you down. If you have to resort to illegal/immoral practices to fund your Wedge habit so be it and if you get caught we'll all stand in the dock as character witnesses.
Hope you get there. Let us know how you get on!

Edit to correct spelling "i before e except after c" and all that!

The insurance companies take a dim view of this. Not worth the risk. The fine will pale into insignificance compared with the following elevated 10 years worth of premiums! The honest/decent way is the best my friend. Mugging people, selling drugs and dealing in the sex trade are less risky than getting done for no insurance! They make an example of people who threaten their profit line!Stupid world and im far too decent, just makes you think doesnt it!!!
