I have seen a silver 1984 A plate wedge convertible sat in a yard with a for sale sign in its window it is open to offers, I assume it is a 280i, it is need of some TLC, the bodywork looks O.K, I havent had a chance to look underneath or inside yet. It was last taxed in 2002 so appears to have been idle for the last 5 years, both front tyres are flat indicating that it has not been moved for quite some time. Can anybody give me a very basic idea of what it might be worth so I can assess if it is within my budget and worth taking further.

The 350i V8 was on sale by 84, so could be one of them. Value, assuming it's a 350, if it needs engine and chassis work £1k-1500? If it starts and runs and the chassis is good a bit more.

Personally I think you can do far worse than picking up a V8 wedge for some fun. The rover engined cars are now holding their money after the aftershocks of a plethora of new models from TVR. They are actually becoming a bit (even more) cult. They are also cheaper to keep at top notch and very fine when they are there.

Seriously though - I have had my V8 wedge for 2 months now and it's probably the best thing I have ever done after various hot (and not so hot!) 4 pots smile

Thanks for your responses, I will get in touch with the owner for a bit more detail and history and will then seek further advise.

The main thing is the chassis. At that age I doubt it matters much whether it's a V6 or a V8, maybe £500 max difference when finished. If the chassis is good then £1000 to £1500; if the chassis is bad then £500. 911 performance but not 911 money.

Hello all, I have finally been able to talk to the owner of this TVR and get a bit more info.
It is a 84 a plate Tasmin 2.8v6 with approx 72k on the clock with history, although last taxed in 2002 it has been run fairly regular since and the mechanics are sound, it does need some welding on the crossmembers to get it through an MOT. The current owner can no longer drive due to health reasons hence it being left out to gather dust. I would be grateful as to some expert opinions as to a ball park value on this motor. it seems such a shame to drive past and watch it melt away.

Well there was a fully running 280i with good chassie, just had a tick over problem and a few other minor problems. and that did not make the asking price of about £1400

I bought a complete 280FHC for spare, had a naff chassie, but was only £250

So I'd say its only worth between £250 and £500 the V8 cars fetch a lot more money.

fully sorted I'd say it would be worth about 2k so depending on how you would have to spend on it, and into DIY it could be a fun project.

with outtrigger-problems i would say 400,-pound.

can you mangage to post some pictures of it?

you always have to calculate the following:

you buy the car for e.g. 400,-pound...than you need to "repair" which takes time and money. during this you will recognize (espc on a car which stood around for long time) a few other bits and pieces not working...

step by step you invest some money, finally you need to mot it yourself and you will end up having saved (maybe) 300-500 pound. plus all the work you need to do yourself.

so i guess its "cheaper" and more relaxed to buy one for 1300,- which you could drive immediately.

in this price-range its not worth investing too much time and money in such cars. always buy a "ready to use" one and maybe the other for spares.

whats about this one: http://pistonheads.com/sales/255090.htm
