Blaines lovily 400se (as far as he knows) is a pretty much standard 4 litre car apart from a fancy exhaust system. When he got it on the rolling road, it put out about the same as all the 4.5's / 4.6's.

I thought you only needed 4.3 to give you 275 - with a decent cam on it? My Rangey is specced for that.

I'd be interested to know the results - just engine capacity vs. measurement, no need to name and shame! Tell you what, you can pm me and I'll summarise with no names.

Also I'd be interested to hear if any of you also had a recent RR session with ventilation etc, and whether the numbers agree....

Depends if it was a mod or a new engine,
I know yellow wedge's 4.6 has a serp, and the 5lt has is serp also.

be interesting to know what was done the blain's car.

Also the Andy rouse 390 was quoted at 275, not sure if this has ever been tested. but it does mean a 4ltr can do 270 with the right bits. I know when I last had mine on the RR it was 236, this was the company that mark adams uses. any mine was a std 4lr at the time with ported heads, standard trumpets, and standard valves. and standard cam, so you can get 10-30 more than that with the right bits.

nice one Weeman, that 15 up from Factory quotes. I think the 350 was the only cars that gave the factory figures, but thats because they was stadard veetess lumps, and the veetess was rated at 190

Nice to meet you also.

1980 Tas 280 fitted with 1983 350 motor, 110k on engine

Engine standard + FSE valve, hot wires, K&N type filter, Bosch super 4's, stainless block hugger manifolds and no balance pipe on exhausts.

208hp and 210 ftlbs of torque at flywheel

With Nitrous=
237.5hp and 235ftlbs of torque at flywheel!

122.1 Decibelsmile

Happy as a pig in sh*t with those figures

I always wondered about this - the Vitesse was indeed rated at 190bhp (up from the 155bhp of the std V8). When TVR used it, it had a less restrictive air filter/inlet and a much more free-flowing exhaust system (err-hemm!!), yet TVR still quoted 190bhp... Must have been up on that a bit, surely?

Have seen some figures quoted by TVR rating the Vitesse engined 350 @ 197hp
but we all know that they have ever so slightly exagerated at times with outputs for specific models over the yearswink

Well maybe Vitesse did like everyone else and lied.
For some reason TVR at the time must have been unaware that you could qoute a figure and in the small print say subject to a 10% differance based on varance. bla bla bla as they all seem about 10% out.

No figures for mine I'm afraid

My Wedge was as good as gold on the way back from BBWF. Perhaps it was because I spared it from the trauma of the rolling road test biggrin. Not sure it would have liked being floored like that with 96K on the clock

For the record, my 1990 400se with an NCK engine, mild cam, enlarged valves and a Mark Adams chip achieved the following:

Flywheel 244 Bhp.

Wheels 194 Bhp.

Max tourque 270 LbFt.

I was fairly happy with this.

Why is there a big variance with the difference between flywheel/wheels bhp figures? It seems to vary between 46 and 54 bhp! Does anyone use molyslip in their gearboxes?

from the Wedge day at SRR a couple of years back. It's a 4.3 BV, running Motec fuel and ignition control. Since then I've fitted 45mm trumpets (with opened out inlet manifold)& larger capacity injectors - plus a full re-map.
