do reckon that is original then or has it been restored? Not sure even a low mileage car would look that good at 20 years+ old.

yikes over 3300 peeps have looked at it so far !

If its been restored someone has spent an awful lot of money - especially as its over there.

My bet is that its original with the benefit of a hot climate & careful storage.

Just for clarification, the car is in Colorado, not California and therefore a totally different climate.
Also, there have been, and are currently 280is available for sale that have not been restored and are in excellent original condition over here in the States. Fortunately, in much of the US, particularly in the Southern belt of states, you don't suffer the ravages of rust that are more prevalent in the UK climate. You do have to be more aware of that, however, when you are looking at such cars that have spent their life in the northern states, frequently known as "The Rust Belt".
This particular car appears to have been a nice, well-maintained example with a repaint.

Yes I'm afraid you'll have to excuse my total ignorance of the US states & geography, sorry I got California as it said thats where he bought it.

So how much to ship a car to the UK !!??

Chris,
I imagine that varies with the different carriers, but I believe coming from the UK to the US it averages about $1,000 to $1,200 from what I've been told, but perhaps some other PHers have more firsthand knowledge of this.

At nearly $2 US to the UK pound currently sounds like a bargain !

Currently talking to the seller - he didn't get the reserve on ebay. It's only 350 miles from me, which here in the states is like being down the end of the road and around the corner. I am very very tempted. My 86 S2 would need alot of money pumped into it to get up to the condition of this one. So I figure I'll buy this one and sell the S2.

What to do confused

I think the color is ok - I almost got an Esprit in gold but saw the light, had a vision and went for a TVR instead

PS the wife says I can get it - she can be so understanding biggrin

Sounds like you don't need much persuasion to buy it !
If there was one in that condition over here (UK) it would fetch a pretty good price I'm sure.
And for the record I think the colour is fine, I guess one mans treasure is another man's trash !

I have a V8S - a V8 engine over here is a pretty rare thing - even better in a car that weighs 900ish kilos !
It too needs a bit of work but nothing too major.

Let us know if you get the car, either on here or PM me.

Cheers

Chris

Gav go for it that looks a cracker...

Interestingly it has the same 350i s1 bonnet as my 86 usa spec 280i ( since converted to a RHD racer)
which I've only seen on one other lhd 86 280i in belgium...

Well as of last night I was going to drive down on the 31st & pick it up - but this morning something happened and my funds now need to be spent on something completely different and totally unTVR related

crycrycry

so watch ebay for a relisting.

The seller is pretty straight up and seems honest. He's quick to say that it is not quite as good as the photos show. On a scale of 0 - 10 he would class it as a 7/10. It does have a couple of fuel issues 1) it is hard to start when hot & 2) after driving at highway/motorway speeds for about 100 miles it will suddenly start to miss. Pull over, switch off, restart after a few minutes and the fault is gone. About 100 miles further down the road it will do it again. He couldn't find anyone in Denver, CO that new the Bosch system so he has no ides what the problems are.

Anyhow I'm back to tweeking my 86 S2 - I was feeling guilty as I had such plans for it.
