Yesterday I was removing the WEdge rear subframe. I threaded my impact wrench past behind the discs to rattle the 2 rearmost (and fecking awkward) bolts out. A frame car.

Goggles fogged up so I took em off. Useless damn things...

This morning I went to A&E to have a shard of steel removed from the iris of my left eye. After anaesthetising my eye, they stuck a needle into it and flicked the offending piece of steel out.

When they said "sit still, here comes the needle...", I found a previously unknown talent of SITTING VERY STILL INDEED!! I (helped by anasthetic) even managed not to move my eyeball whilst they poked it with a small hypodermic needle.

Bottom line: safety glasses are a must for doing that sort of work. Ironically enough, they also prevent you getting poked in the eye with a needle...

Never a dull moment.

Ed.

I thought they used a strong magnet to do that. Or was it stainless....

Bleedin hell Ed , that is a lesson for us all , safety glasses may be less prone to fogging up and cheap too , eyes can't be replaced.

Had a similar experience and I was wearing safety glasses... Working under the Wedge with angle grinder, files etc and somehow a small piece of metal got down the side of the safety glasses and stuck in my eyeball. A trip to the hospital and they clamped my head in a jig with a very bright light and microscope type thing. The consultant was called over and when he asked for a scalpel I almost did a runner... but they removed it by just sort of scraping the surface of the eye with the scalpel. As you say Ed it's amazing how still you can be when it really matters. Personally I prefer the goggles now even if they do steam up sometimes. Cheers Steve

Had to go back to my GP last night. The corneal surface of my left eye (cornea is the bit of clear stuff that covers the iris/coloured bit) has been abraded by the whole process, and I now have my left eye taped shut and bandaged. A days blinking yesterday inflamed my eye until it was a deep shade of red: very uncomfortable. WAs at a busines meeting up country, and had to get the train home as I couldnt drive by the afternoon!

I should be able to open it again this evening all being well.

My eyesight will be unaffected once the cornea has healed. Fortunately, your eyes are the fastest part of your body to recover from trauma.

Its daft, the piece of metal was absolutely TINY.

Im gonna weld Andys roof struts up at next years BBWF so his mullet's always up...

Hehehe.
