I don't suppose anyone has a 1/2"x6 1/2" UNC hub carrier bolt spare that they could get to me asap?

I am booked for the Brands evening track day on Monday and am lacking a way of keeping the rear offside wheel attached to the car. TVRCarparts can get one but does not have one in stock and Namrick only go up to 6". A UNF would be fine (bad pun) providing a matching nylock came with it.

can't you just get a length of suitable high tensile threaded rod and a couple of nylocs to get you back on track, so to speak ? smile

Considered that but I was not to happy with the idea as the thread will be slightly smaller diameter and the minimal surface area may allow too much movement and possibly damage the bores of the carrier and A-frame. If it was just as a bodge to drive a few miles maybe but for track use I would rather not risk it.

I have a 12mm bolt and could use some brass shim sheet to pack it out the the right diameter but that is still a bit more of a bodge than I would prefer for track use.

You could ask RT racing .. and insist on a courier.

Just ordered a set from Steve, caught him just before he went out to the post office.

As I was on the phone to Steve my mate rang to say he had managed to order a pair from a local company so there is a good chance we will have one in time. Which means I will have a couple of spares if anyone gets else gets stuck...

Thanks for the suggestions guys, if any of you are going to BH on Monday please come and say hello.

Definitely.

If only the previous owner had thought of that on the 350 I had to cut then drill the bolt out of meaning I had to nick the bolt off the 400 to get the MOT done and the car sold. To be charitable maybe it just never came out from new, note to self remove and copper slip the other bolts on the 400.

It a shame the SH ones are not coated, I got some a long time ago from a dealer, and they had a copper could colour coating to stop them sticking.

I still have a set of the SH ones, I've not used yet so if's yours don't come I can bring to BH on saturday.

Not totally convinced that the dealer was actually right in saying the colour indicated that the bolt was coated in anti-seize. This is usually a metal loaded lubricant e.g. copper ease which is copper in grease. For obvious reasons it is normally added just prior to use. Not sure that precoating the bolt kits with this stuff would go down well.

I suspect that the coating was a coloured zinc plating and nothing more. It could be a copper plating but that would not in itself give any antisieze properties as it can start electrolytic corrosion. It is possible to get bolts coated with teflon etc but the cost is way beyond that of a tub of copper grease and its effectiveness is not as good.

Got to say I'd agree with Steve..

I coated mine with loads of copper easy on re-assembly.

I've lost count on the amount of times some one has told me some thing that is an off the cuff remark from someone you dont know but you assume they know what they are talking about.. and when you think about it ..

Well it's often rubbish.

I think it may have just been a zinc plating to stop them rusting. not sure if will just rub off over time anyway.

As said it was a long time ago. plus steve know's a lot more than me.

The bolt kit turned up on Friday, many thanks to Steve for that.

It was good to see a few wedges flying around BH on Monday evening.
