Well been out today and car was running great, stop for fuel this evening at a well known grocery store near me, drive off and all ok. Stop at a friends house 10 mins later for 10 minutes. Start the car and it's now running like a rough steam roller frown Get it home and it's too dark to see anything
Will not pull over 3k and sounds as if running on 4 - 6 cys at 3k, but idling ok

Smells a bit petrolly but has done for the last few days so come on guys give me the usual list of things to check. I'm suspecting fuelling somewhere and hoping that it's not dodgy fuel from the supermarket as did not get a reciept.

Good news is might have sourced a cheap megasquirt and edis units smile

EXACT same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago - check my recent thread. Was a poor quality rota arm where by the brass metal piece had started to detatch from the plastic bit. Car was perfect one minute, but would hardly run 10 mins later after a brief stop. The strong smell of petrol could be due to not all the fuel being ignited due to the lack of sparks. Mine did the same.

My issue was just after refueling but it wasn't the fuel and it had been a worsening problem. Funnily enough, running sweet after changing a relay but I think the problem was masked. When it died it was similar symptoms but I am probably barking up the wrong tree. Throttle pot voltage set wrong.

The other symptom similar was on the way to BBWF 06. You helped me change the ignition amp, well told me how to do it and very much appreciated. Looking through the search on this, one way to test it is to use a timing light to see how good the spark is. Try a search on "ignition amp" in the usual suspect area's. Engine and TVR Griff, Chimera and Wedges etc.

No expert BTW. Pinch of salt and all that.

I would look at the HT leads and the ignition amp on the dizzy and perhaps give the coil a test too...

I started mine at the weekend and it ran like a bag of spanners so i turned it off, gave all the leads a wiggle and tried it again! JOB DONE!

Next day, same again...weird i thought, so took the leads off at the dizzy end.....one of the leads ends had TOTALLY corroded and was replaced by a pile of copper dust!! Changed, cleaned and happy!

Worth trying smile

Ummm interesting

Filled up my other car with petrol at the same garage on Sat, and about 10 miles down the road that too started to play around and not not idle or rev as smoothly.

I wonder if said supermarket has a fuel problem ?

Anyone one know the procedure for a supermarket if someone complains about the petrol, who would test it etc ?

Yes. Make sure you _always_ get a receipt - I always get a VAT receipt.

2. Get a sample of the fuel and keep it in a clean glass container. A jam jar with a metal cap would be ideal.

3. Contact the vendor and ask for a refund, tell them you have a sample and can send it to trading standards.

4. If not forthcoming, contact trading standards.

BTW does anyone know what sysmptons too low a fuel pressure would be ? Anything like won't idle properly, wont pull away ie gut-less, keep cutting out. As my tempory plumbed in fuel pressure guage is also playing up so it seems, or maybe there is no pressure ?

What causes low pressure, leak somewher (hence smell of petrol) poor fuel pump operation ?

Looks like I need to go through my box of spares for fuel pump / fuel pipe frown

Any other ideas ?

The pressure gauge I plumbed in, in place of my cold start injector, failed some months ago after a period of reading erratically. I don't know why, I haven't yet removed it, car still runs fine.
Guage was rated for 5 Bar, never saw more than 3.25 whilst fiddling...
