So will need the following.
So of the stuff will be duel purpose but its working out expensive.

But will have a lot of equipment for fault finding.

http://www.race-technology.com/dl1_2_27.html
and a matching dash
http://www.race-technology.com/dash2_2_31.html

And two of these.
http://www.race-technology.com/oil__fuel_pressure_...
and these
http://www.race-technology.com/oil_temperature_2_6...
http://www.race-technology.com/water_temperature_2...

Ouch and one of these.
http://www.race-technology.com/lambda_sensor_afr_2...

Ouch 2k plus will still need to buy a Emerald ECU. at least the lambda_sensor can be of dual use.

What ?

The regulations make you all run with a digital dash .. why ?

Yeah, same question.

Also - are you using GPS for speed, or do you also need an electronic speedo input?

Well don't have to run a digital dash, but you have to run the data logger.
So if I have to have one, may as well use the digital dash as then I can have all the data as I drive.

The system has a GPS and a accelerator sensor to monitor speed, I'm sure that's going to be more accurate than any other system.

Plus if I need to use the Digital dash would still need 8 gauges. add them up at £50 a time and your at £400 so an extra £100 is not a bad price. plus will be more compact and more accurate.

I've had a DL1 in the 520 for several years. I have thought about the digital dash but prefer analogue dials for the key instruments so I reused the ones I have and then replaced them with SPA digital ones as and when. They are dual functions with programmable warning lights. I make use of a lot of warning lights which are easier to see.

Then hooked the other systems into the DL1 for system analisys.

The reason for the data logging is to police the engine power regs so that people don't do a Mclaren/Ferrari (delete as applicable) and cheat by running more power than they have declared.

Steve could you explain how the datalogger works out how much BHP you have at the wheels.

Also what datalogger you running now.

Thanks
Leigh.

It's possible to estimate the power from the vehicle's acceleration, speed and mass. To get an accurate answer you need to measure the drag too, but that's doable. Without that you'll get a low reading so it's "fail safe" as a way to police the power output.

The loggers combine GPS and accelerometer data to get accurate acceleration information. The ability to caluclate BHP is a by product of everything else the logger does. They are a very power full bit of kit and rival systems easily cost a couple of K..

Its the analysis sotftware that calculates the bhp using the logged data plus the weight, drag and cda o the car. once you've got that its a fairly simple formula.

The drag and cda is worked out by doing some coast down tests between particular speeds on a flat road ( or in two directions and then averaging results) and feeding that into a separate bit of s/w.

The loggers also have the facility for you to add alot more sensors and record them but thas up to you. I also use one and we ran them in the TVRCC challenge before, and ind it great for analysis. looking at the track maps it build and the speed differences when we make changes etc... you cant hide that spin at the back of the circuit from the team as they can see it on the map !!!

If your building a new car I do think the Dash 2 represents fantastic value for money and if i was building a new car i'd do that rather than buy individual analogues which with a good rev counter easily over 200 quid on its own soon adds up to cost much more...

the analogue / digital guage will run and run but modern digitals tend to mix analogue representations i.e. the bar graph for rpm with digital messages or other bits and the warnings..

I also like the way you dont need to scan the guages, if something goes out of range a warning will pop up.

I actually prefer the dash 2 to my stack !!!! and no i dont work for R/T..

Looking at the rest of your list. you dont necessarily need the lamba for the Emerald. you can run open loop as we do. you can even run it using the distributor as the crank sensor and the single coil. not quite as flexible as crank trigger and coil packs but cheaper and if you spec the emerald still with the 4 ignition drivers you can go coil packs later..

or you could start staying with the old lucas initially. We ran the tuscan on a 14cux for the first season, the emerald from the chim with dissy in 06 and a new emerald with coil pack this year.

Edited to say:- you should also be able to use most of the existing pressure / temp sensors on the car. I use the std rover/ajp ones on mine plugged straight into the stack, so you may not need to replace them.

Thanks for that G.
Should make things a bit cheeper.
as said the Digital dash does seem a very good value buy.

I was bidding on a 4.0 with coil packs, hence planning to go that route. but got outbid with 7 secounds to go. but don't really need a engine yet, untill I sort the chassie out.

So will keep looking to see what turns up.
