Got a Master Cylinder from Merlin, the clutch pipe fitting bore is 5mm and the clutch pipe OD on the wedge is 7mm frown just measured the thread diameter that the fitting goes in and the wedge MC thread diameter is about 1.5mm wider frown Will I be able to buy another fitting that will take the 7mm clutch pipe I have instead of a 5mm pipe? I do not want to replace my clutch pipe with a smaller one. Where would I buy a fitting "off the counter"?

I can of course put this to Merlin tomorrow, just giving an update if anyone knows easy answers So I can get it done sooner.

The pushrod is 72mm whereas the wedge one is 80mm.

Cheers
Woody

I couldnt unscrew it as the edges of the nut were knackered and it was seized also. So I had to saw it off so I could get the mounting bolt off...threads a different size too

Take pipe and master to a garage and they should be able to find the correct nut size for your pipe diameter and to fit into the master.

I think even quick fit have quite a varity, or even the car shop in Lee on Solent main street may have a selection to pick from smile

Are you just talking about the nut that screws into the m/c? Why not drill out the centre to 7mm? Then it'll go on the pipe. Maybe that's what TVR did?

Don't go for 5mm pipe 'cos you'll then have to change the slave end too.

7mm seems a bit large though - is that the pipe dia or the thread dia?

Yes I am talking about the nut as you say, I couldnt drill it out as I havent got a vice&workbench, but thats my next job!) 7mm is the pipe outside diameter, altho it may be 1/.4", I just measured it in mm, and as I had to saw it off it may be a bit "flared" when I measured it. Thanks for the tip about not using 5mm, even more of a reason thumbup
I'll call Merlin this morning and see what they say (How many times have you wanted to send things back and you missus has thrown away the packaging yikes)

Can you not remove pipe from the slave and then it would be free ?

As for Lee on Solent, used to live round there , cycle along the front from Fareham / Warsash and launch my boat at the hover slipway, or even go gliding from Daedalous smile

Plus me dad lives a stones throw away smile

I could disconnect it from the slave, or I could just tell them the size of it, that I measured? I havent got the car on stands yet, something I've obviously got to do , to bleed it thru when fixed.

Daedulus would be a smart place to turn into a track dont you think? I'd love to buy it!!
Give us a shout next time your in the area smilebeer

Sure would be, I remember learning to drive on the runway when I was 14 yikes

I thought it was going to be another housing estate now, or is the private flying still going in there ?

Merlin tell me there maybe some type of inline reducer that can take the pipe from a 3/8" upto a 7/16" which is the thread in the old MC, does anyone know where I can get something like this? or I can return it and find another somewhere else

Now I realise why I never had a problem when I fitted an SDi m/c - I just undid the pipe and the TVR fittings on it just screwed into it no problems.

Can you not drill it out then - start with a block of wood. Drill a hole in it slightly smaller than the thread. Then screw the fitting into the hole to trap it there. Drill it out, then unscrew it after.

Well I got it jacked up tongue outhew: Bit of a bang onto the axle stands, and I only turned it slowly too, but it was only from an inch. Its on to the lowest settings on the stands, can I just raise the drivers side from this and get it onto the next notch up without too much to weorry about?
I tried to jack it further also before I took the first height, but it seemed to take too long, am I just being impatient!?

Hi Leigh, no news yet, no, I'm still waiting for it to come in, and I ordered it on Thursday. Hope its with a neighbour when I get home, and I can start on it. Just been thinking about it, and realised I should have maybe put it on axle stands after I've fitted it, as I still have to climb into the footwell upside down to tighten bolts etc. What do u think, will it be safe or should I take it off the 2 stands first? Then put it onto the stands just to bleed it?

Another Question, I've got that liquid instant gasket stuff, is that ok to use to mount the MC onto the bulkhead?

Can't see why you can't leave it on stands. if your paranoid you could put the wheels on, so if by the 0.1% chance of it falling off, it's not going to damage anything.

Also Im sure the gasket is only there to stop engine bay air. etc so any gasket stuff should be ok.
