Probably not he best for you then - it's quite peaky

Probably best to ask on the less hardcore forums e.g. Griffith

Did you ever have a go of my car when Lee had it Darren? Low down grunt city. Mine has the JE '101' cam we think. Not sure of the spec of the cam but it tears from 2k rpm to 5k rpm. Still makes me laugh out loud.

No point having a well leary cam unless the engine breathes well, cos just as the cam timing starts to work, the silly litle hole in the air flow meter will be choking and the VE will be shot.

Think mines got a mild road crane cam in it. Well worth fitting a double row chain cos its much less likely to break.

No did not drive it but mine made the same 315 on the WF RR. problem is I have no idea which cam is in it !! In the mountain of paperwork Mike gave me with the car the only invoice for the new cam is for a blank.

Daz,
The "Stealth" cam fitted to a lot of Griffs seems a good compromise between power and shunting.
V8D in Spalding supply I believe - Rob is the man to speak to.

I have the previous owners details someplace I will have to pass them on to you, he can probably give you more info....

You will find that the setup in the 450 is obviously not standard. The previous owner lived in/around London. When he had the mountain of work done on the engine I reckon he spec'd a bespoke cam profile that lets the car pull off relatively trouble free then pulls away and then at around 3K revs the entire power band comes in in one big bang! Good for standing around and crawling along in London traffic I suppose!

Toodle around like a 1.3L fiesta all day long and then all of a sudden walllllllop it takes your head off all in one big dose.

I distincly remember coming back from a Wedge meet (I remember Jeff was there as well) in my 350i (at the time) and the chap who had your 450SE came up to me and offered my a race home!. Being Welsh and optomistic/dull I agreed!

We basically got to a set of lights and floored the cars on the green light (childish I know and I cannot condone that sort of behaviour!!) anyhow there we were 350i v 450SE and I managed to overtake him good and proper from the lights, and started to pull away a little as well!

Woohoo I thought 'Big Bad Wedge' pah! then his power band kicked in and he basically obliterated me and left me blowing in the weeds thinking WTF. I didn't see him again until I bought the car from him! ;-)

It actually occured to me that it looked like the 450SE had been shot out of a caterpault as he overtook so fast. But thats the cam profile he specced.

What sort of powerband you looking at then Darren?

Darren,

This RV8 cam table is useful :

http://www.btinternet.com/~jon.wolfe/kentcamdata.h...

As Ed said earlier - some high lift cams (around 0.5 inch lift) do not make any additional power due to the last of breathing that most engines (don't) have !

But if you have 315 bhp from a 4.5 does not sound like you have any problems in that area .. can't see why you want to change.

Is it worn out.

Too savage a delivery.

Best advice is to call V8 developments and tell them what you want the car to drive like..

Thanks FFG, will have a chat, next time we meet NEC ? on the Sunday ?

Mike, not sure what I want really scratchchin but at the min, as you say you can drive it in traffic like a eurobox when down the rev range but give it some beans above say 4k and its burning Toyos and screamin wimin, it revs like a chainsaw thanks to all the balancing work, but I get the feeling its trying to kill me and I really need to relax.

Savage, thats the word for it, Fecking Savage

Hi Darren

When I get back home I'll have a look as to what profile cam John Eales put in my engine. The acceleration is quite pleasant, as is the low down grunt until you get to 4000 rpm and then you have to hold on for grim death and your eyes start to bleed.

Always fancied a 840 BMW for the driveability......scratchchin

Kent 218 (should be in the Kent map link)seems a decent choice as being good allround and on power, but not an out and out powercam. Seems that what ever you will put in your wedge, will take top end power down.
The tuners can go better it seems (not typing out of experience here), and probably can help you as they probably will ask the right questions and propose what you probably would like and advise on that.

There were some paper work with the car when i looked at it,original owner. The engine was blue printed by a Porche team he raced for,to factory spec and i'm sure there were some info on the cam with it,he also had a straight through back box for it,he only fitted it now and then cos it was too loud earshehe
