Last ride of the season, and I get into an accident.
Discussion
It was a beautiful day... 17C, which is great for late October in
Canukistan... and I was out for the last blast of the season.
(to picture this, imagine RIGHT HAND trafic)
I pull up to a stop sign to make a right hand turn.
I see ample space to pull into traffic, look right to check
for pedestrian traffic and hit the gas.... WHAMMO! I get nailed
from the left by a car THAT WAS in the left lane, not the lane I
was turning into.... the cupid stunt that drove her Eagle Talon
into my wedge changed lanes mid-intersection which is illegal here.
She was changed lanes, without even signalling to get around a car that
was stopped to make a left turn across opposing lanes of traffic.
Long story short, the car is repairable, looks fugly though.
My front bumper caught her rear right wheel well. The bumper although
cracked is still in one piece, but it shifted about 1.5 inches towards
the drivers side. IOW its placement needs reset. Unfortunately her right
rear tyre scuffed my signal light lens, which (part wise) is really the only thing needing replaced and can't be repaired.
It's an 87 390..... where can I find this lens?
I guess if there's a silver lining to a sh|tty black cloud, I now have
the impetus to make the wedge's looks flawless.
I'm depressed..

Thanks wedgie. Just to make sure, they're not pug lights?
I know you really know your wedges having enoyed your posts
and the info you share, but IIR, some wedge's has Puegot lights yeah?
I just wanted to double check though, a real p1553r would be ordering
the wrong ones.
It's funny how you mention commonality here. When I said that they were
r12 lights, my friend across the room said instantly "I can get you those".
The funny thing is, I really don't recall ever seeing any Renault's here
except for one my grandad bought in the mid 70's and the Le Car...LOL
Please tell me the light's aren't shared with a Renault Le Car... I'll vomit. LOL

Oh heck... I just wiki'd the Renault 12... it's uglier than
the Le Car.
Funny how such beautiful wedges can be crafted from the parts
of such ugly cars isn't it?
Now to make it beautiful again...*sigh*...
One half of me says "fix the car mike and wait for spring", the other half
of me says I should just do it all, leather, chassis, body, drivetrain etc.
IOW a total body off restoration. One option means not giving it the love it
needs, the other means waiting a few years for perfection. (as budget allows)
It's a really tough choice with my wedge. I'm waiting for the day I begin
putting thousands of hours of elbow grease into it to make it prestine, but
OTOH, it's so damned hard getting out of the driver's seat! Who wants one up on jackstands? It's a tough choice... and now's the time for me to decide.
Advice anyone?

Le Car was the R5 I believe... probably the one car that did most to turn round Renault's fortunes in the 80s.
As you say most of their 70's offerings were pig-hideous things that rotted before your eyes. But then, the same could be said of the Brit (and American!) products.
Renault's ad slogan in the early/ mid 80s was 'Renault build a better car' and it was true (for once) - for mass-market tin boxes their cars were generally well-specified, handled well and apart from the base models, had plenty of 'go'. I think they started the trend towards building cars with less metal, maybe they'd been listening to Colin Chapman
My ex-wife had a 5GTL 1.4; it cornered at 45 degrees but never once did it think of letting go.
I had a R25GTX 2.2 that we took all over France, it's natural habitat
It was a 3-piece suite on wheels with (I still think) one of the best engines ever built - unlike the horrifically complex 2.5V6. It was (IIRC) the first mass-produced car to run total engine management (sparks and fuel) and mine never went wrong or missed a beat. Clean the plugs, change the filters and add oil. That was all you could do.
Anyway... the 400SE used Peugeot turn signals but the 390SEs are definitely R12.

A lot of people have fitted newer style ford ones which look better than the orignal ones. depends if this is allowed in the USA or if you want to keep it 100% standard.
I have put the smoked triangle ones from a focus, and they look very good. everyone think they look a lot better than they expected.

I am really sorry to hear what happened to your wedge, but glad to hear it's repairable.
I can only hope that this wasn't yet another of your drunk-driving misdemeanours, but am so glad to hear that your lovely 390 will be OK, it's a cracking example, & I was much saddened to hear about this - if not entirely surprised. I've said it before, & I'll say it again: that car needs some proper respect, & I hope you do lavish this upon it in appropriate measure.
Really hope your wedge is good to go again for the spring - but please, take a hazard awareness course or something, before this sort of thing happens again.
All the best getting things sorted out mate.

I´m sure you get it sorted.
But...have learnt from experience never to say that a ride should be the last one!
Going downhill in the Alps, driving your car or whatever. Never say " This is the last run!"
Going downhill....breaking a leg or two is bad enough. What you experienced is worse?!
Good luck with the rebuild.....or restoration!
