Went to MOH after 3 weeks since she was last run and when she started I was engulfed in a cloud of white smoke with a eye watering smell of v power and she is missing like a gud un and will not tick over at all, I presume I should start by looking at the temp sensor ? but which one there seems to be 2 just at the front of the engine or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

There should be one for the gauge (probably single wire onto a stud) and one for the ECU (mini-timer connector the same as the injector connectors) both into the water jacket in the front of the inlet manifold. If yours has the 9th injector on the plenum you might try pulling the wire off this in case that's all it is.

O.K disconnecting either temp sensor or extra fuel injector makes no difference. Where would I get the temp sensor is it readily available ?

Rich - temp sensor has the blue cap on it furthest from the front. The other one is the Thermotime switch. Short out the temp sensor cap and see if things change. Temp sensors are about 12 quid from any landrover dealer.

Double check that the temp sender you have (a) is actually a temp sender and (b) is the one for the ECU.

The temp sender will be screwed into the front of the inlet manifold close to where the top hose connects to the engine. The ECU temp sender has a mini-timer connector the same as the injector plugs.

Once you're sure you're looking at the right thing, measure the resistance with the engine cold and (if the engine will run well enough to get up to temperature) with it hot. I think you'll find the thermister should read about 5KOhm at 0C, roughly halving per 20C temperature rise. If it's open or short circuit, or obviously not changing with temperature, it's probably failed. If it's changing with temperature, even if it isn't giving the exact values I quoted, check it again back at the ECU to make sure you haven't got a wiring fault.

I'd have the plugs out first and either clean them or fit new ones. It may just be fouling that's causing the misfire, smoke and fumes...
Temp sensors do fail for no apparent reason but the fact it's been stood idle could bring on other issues (e.g. you sure it's smoke and not steam?).

White smoke is mostly steam, misfire due to damp dizzy, bad smell due to misfire creating a rich mixture. Dry/WD40 the dissy cap and ign system.

Exact same thing happened to mine last week. Was told it could be temp sensor to which I tried to source. TVR Carparts did not have one and was told it was unusual for this to fail anyway.Cut a long story short, put new plugs in and hey presto misfire gone and it drives totally different. Should have known - always look at the simple things first. Next job suspension bushes

Yeah - right....

There are three temperature-related sensors then:

AFM air temp
Engine water temp
Thermotime.

They all affect the cold fuelling, so you'd have to eliminate them one by one.
