Quite likely. It was one of the symptoms I noticed the other weekend as my alternator stopped charging.
£12 from a local auto electrics place (no warranty as I was fitting it myself).
Incidentally I suspect a large part of the problem was actually due to the brushes being down at their wear limit, causing one brush to arc to the commutator, laying down a carpet of carbon and preventing any current from flowing. The new reg comes with new brushes installed.
There again your alternator may be different to mine...
