how can you tell?
Discussion
Without casting aspersions at anyone who might be selling (not even looked in the classifieds).......
Body and interior trim? I suppose engine could be verified by the number and VIN number if you want to be really sure. Date of registration and all that but as all things TVR, there are things out there that can refuse to obey the natural order so to speak. Been a few heated discussions on here in the past so trying to tread lightly.

Very difficult, as interior all seems to be the same across the 400 - 450 se range, as does suspension brakes etc.
I have rebadged my 400SE as a 450SE, but I did put a 4.5 BV lump in from a later Chimera due to 4.0l expiring, and think that if I ever did sell I would disclose this fact to any prospective buyers. THe log book still says 350 Tasmin as registered by TVR in 89
And from some of the power runs at Wedge fest some 'apparently' standard 4.0 engines were beating my some what choked 260 ponies. - no digs just jealous of the hot wire setup
Probably very few standard 400's remaining, but take any for a spin and if they put a very very large grin on your face when you change gear at high revs and still want to try and kill you then you probably have a sorted motor under the bonnet
Also if you buy a 4.5 still with flapper injection even more fun with the popping and banging, try changing down gear from 3rd to 2nd at 4k and watch the children run away scared
What ever you buy enjoy - in the spring time
