My master cylinder is a little soft and I would like to take the opportunity for a upgrade. Booster too if that is the way to go. Any thoughts? I think it is the same as a TR7?

Sorry can't help, but:

On mine I think it is ford something (probably cortina), and overhauling the brake master cylinder was not possible (after 2 months of looking for parts and cortina as a start wasn't helping). Got a new one to fix the problem.

If you find an upgrade something modern, I would be interested as well. Think that the main issue is that the servo diameter is limited due to its position and many will be too large... Perhaps it needs a different brake pedal setup/linkage all together to work if you find something. And most stuff now is ABS enabled: Haven't looked into this if it could be a knock-out criteria or not.

I did not think there was anying thing wrong with the master cylinder if it's working right.

They still use the standard one in the race cars, with 303mm AP disc's and 4 pot AP calipers.

So if you have a problem it's either broken or somthing else is not right.

The garage that replaced mine went through a bit of hassle to get a direct replacement but after a bit of a hunt he found one with Girling but part to hand to compare fittings etc.

If its a little soft then maybe the brake lines could do with some attention? Mine are the braided goodrich type stuff all around and very solid. Maybe even just replacing the rubbery bits to the calipers might sort you?

I know my master is bad…. That is the reason that I am replacing it. There seems to be many variations in master cylinders for wedges, and I know that the SD1 is an upgrade for the TR7 master. I think the TR7 is the same as my wedge but I don't know that for sure.

Iirc sd1 may have a bigger bore and the pipes may be on the wrong side so double check this. I'm sure I went down this route once with a TR8, even using a remote servo, 3:1 ratio. Man the nose hit the floor so hard I had to go back some, closer to stock smile If the car was ok before then you probably have an internal leak in the master cylinder which will cause no end of losses. I'd replace the master if you can't find obvious faults.

As said before old stuff is ok, but if alternatives available would like to know (like in 10 years time the seals need to be replaced and you can't get them) and modern stuff is available so you can overhaul instead of buying complete master cylinder....
Still trying to find an overhaul set, as old master is in good nick except for this one seal!
