Wasted spark on 390
Discussion
Nice and complicated! Wasted spark usually fires the alternate cylinder during its exhaust stroke which is a piece of cake to work out on a 2-cyl or even a 4-cyl engine, but I've been sat here drawing V8 pistons and crankpins for half an hour and I'm no further on than when I started... I can see how you've paired the plugs off but I'm still not sure you haven't got one or more cylinders on the wrong stroke. Half the cylinders fire for every crank rotation so when 1 is starting its firing stroke, I make it that 6 is just starting its intake stroke so you'd have an almighty bang...
ETA: guess I was doing it wrong then

Cheers everyone, just trying to reassure myself after looking at the Megasquirt manuals.
Sent the drawing to the guy that I bought the MS off as well, but he's not so enthusiastic with advice as he is with sales.
Got to go out to the garage just now and try to measure up for the HT leads so that they look tidy when it's finished.

MS fuel only last winter.
The reason for going fuel only was to make the initial change over less complicated, ie I would still have a working ignition system and therefore any probs would be on the fuel side. Started first time, much to my amazement. Set up the fuel map on a rolling road. Pinking a lot at the top end, so had to retard the timing a bit and left it rich to protect the engine
Hopefully fuel and spark together, this winter, will be as easy.
Bought an LC1 wideband from my MS supplier too, so that's to be hooked up somewhere as well.

Haha
So did you bin everything on the fuel side, or still using flapper /hotwire injectors, cold start, extra air valve etc.
On mine I'm going to plug in the extra sensors , wheel, etc needed and then monitor what my current flapper is doing under load
Then hopefully go all out for fuel swap (with hotwire inj and no resistor pack ) bin as much as possible , eav, etc
Then if that runs attempt the sparky side of things

Binned the AFM and kept the resistor pack. Cold start's gone. Just done the crank sensor and had a bracket for mounting the coil packs made by some mates of mine who have their own fabrication business. So did you bin everything on the fuel side, or still using flapper /hotwire injectors, cold start, extra air valve etc.

If you're going for MS, make sure the person you buy it from is easily contacted for advice, cos it's a nightmare if you get to a point, then you want to ask a question, but he's nowhere to be found. I found this out the hard way.

Just thought I'd let you see the progress:

Prototypes for VR sensor mount and Coil pack bracket.

Coil bracket fabricated in 2mm SS by some friends of mine.

VR sensor with bracket.

Coil packs with new leads
Well pleased with the HT leads, arrived the day after I ordered them and only cost £50 inc P&P.
I might get some different HT lead seperators, at the moment I'm using a couple of Ford ones.
