The windscreen wiper arm has started slipping on the shaft of the motor on my 1985 350i. Can somebody tell me if the shaft and arm is supposed to be splined or is it just on a taper? Also what car is the arm off just in case I cannot tighten it up enough to stop it slipping.

Usually splined. However this IS a TVR, remember... it could be dovetailed, cross-drilled and pinned, mortice-and-tenoned, superglued, tapered (Morse, R8, International, Jacobs, Jarno), tongue-and-grooved, keyed (square or Woodruff), biscuit-jointed, Velcro'd, pinch-bolted, dowelled, staked or simply held on by the will of Allah... smile

I think some are fiesta rear arms, motorcraft ewa345,but a bit of old turkey foil wrapped round the taper will keep it going for a few years.Tempus

Ive just cleaned it up and done the same. Lets hope it holds. If not might have to resort to one of the super bodges mentioned below
