Tvr makes it into the top 20 wedges of the world
Discussion
I meant he seems to have overlooked the SEACs
Actually, standard Porsche 911 turbo of that era (my racing driver mate had a 930 sloping nose, with full engine upgrade and sports pack
...very rare) would have been about evens with our 400SEs, bearing in mind that actual hp is so variable on Wedges.
Back in the 80s my Lotus 7 would pee all over another friend's boggers 911.

Well this thread could be embarrassing.
A 935 won Le mans
Private teams around that time running 934s and 935s were beating the works 915
Barber and Kartcher (or something like that) as much as I like TVRs I don't think it was much of a contest.
I think we're talking standard road cars here.A 935 won Le mans

I either owned or had family or friends who owned most of the available roadgoing exotica back in the big Wedge era.
Standard Porsche 911 Turbo was probably the fastest STANDARD car around then, and performance figures not dissimilar to a SEAC.

But, I would choose the Seac over a 930 today.

Nope...my mate's (930) was an '89, and 8 months old when he part-exed his 308 GTB in against the approx. 80 grand price.
The 308 had the plate '308 GTB', and fibreglass body, so a bit special too.
I remember the plate being valued at 25 grand, and that was THEN.
Graham, you forced me to do a search The 308 had the plate '308 GTB', and fibreglass body, so a bit special too.

The 930 started in '75, your friend had the last year. (sure it wasn't yours ?) I had a drive in one, I wasn't sure of the year but I knew it was before I left UK and that was pre 280. I never saw a Wedge before I left.
It was a 911 Turbo that took away the M25 lap record briefly (and first of all) held by my 390SE.
The May 1995 edition of Fast Lane (in which my Wedge was road-tested) gives the following figures for the 911T:

- Max speed: 160mph
- 0-62: 5.4s

Having owned a couple of 911`s the classic shape finished in 1989.Then came the 964 which looked very similar but had an electric pop up spoiler 1989-1993
The early turbos 1977/78 were 3 litre but had no intercooler. They evolved to a 3.3 intercooled version with over 300hp.
Very fast cars and a right handful as they had a large turbo which when spooled up...all hell let loose
Plenty of specials availible the most famous being the RUF yellowbird 1987 (A recognised car maker in its own right)which still holds its own against todays supercars-check it out sweet
