For the 390SE:

(Performance battery's ABX D226R giving 75Ah, 750CCA at £130

or:

Varta's 069 giving 70Ah, 630CCA at £86

I'd go for the one with the most grunt (but £44 dearer!), but what do you think? Any other suggestions/recommendations?

For me it would have to be the Boschsghshses silver. Or however it is spilt. Its in the archives somewhere for the size.

Streaky I was having a spot of starter trouble a few months ago and have since changed the motor but also stuck on a new battery at the same time this is an Exide Maxxima 900
knocks out 750A starting performance so has loads of spin and reserve capacity and its only 260 mm x 173 mm x 205 mm so fits a treat.
BUT and its a BIG BUT they are about £150!!!!

Try £221.45 + VAT!!!

The 'alphaline' from Performance Battery is 266 X 175 X 220, almost the same as the Varta. It is also gives 750CCA. The existing battery is fractionally smaller all round, but there is sufficient space for the largest of the three batteries. There's no means of securing the battery (other than "interference fit" smile), so a tighter fit would be better (no sniggering at the back!).

Oh yeh I forgot to mention (as a dealer for Exide Marine batteries) I had taken it out of stock so was £150 + VAT Trade!
If anyones interested I have 2 more available at "Trade" to clear and can bring them to BBWF or ship em for about £15.00.
Another unique feature is not only do you have the normal two terminal posts on top but there are two front mounted auxilliary terminals for ring terminal connections of all the other stuff you may need to wire direct.

Not sure if it would fit chaps, but I got hold of one of these Odyssey PC1500 batteries for the Cerb. Huge cranking power and it can cope with deep cycles too.

Borrox to that! I usually get a £45 jobbie from the local motor factors, which comes with a 3-year guarantee.

It would fit, but I'd never buy a battery from a firm that makes the mistake of using a grocer's apostrophe smile - Streaky

You should be fitting an :

Type : 072 680 amps
dimentions 278mm x 175 mm x 190 mm

It's pretty industry standard for the case size.

You could go with an 068 but it's only 535 amps..

Cheers Alan, a lot of sites seem to say 015 for the 280's and 089 for the 350, plus I forgot to look under the bonnet this morning

At my last service the garage fitted a Varta Blue Dynamic E12 74Ah battery, 680 amps cranking.

It fits my October 1985 390 well.

Until I got this battery the engine always almost stopped when cranking a hot engine.

The strap for holding down the battery rotted away years ago, I use a small length (3 inches) of 1/2 inch rubber water pipe with a "spile" jammed in (ask your local real-ale landlord. It has never failed an MOT on it.

Maybe that's where my problem lies, in having a weak engine not able to crank the hot engine then ? Will shove in the WSV as a spare and get the 680 power

Well the Wedge had a 072 Bosch Silver Top in it (although don't recall it say 680 amps anywhere), probabably about 4 years old.
So swapped with the WSV battery that is newer and slightly more powerful so have to see how that goes.

WSV still starts and is always on charge so should be fine yikes Just got to book the mot for the WSV in time for BBWF !
