Car not been used for a year, but started from time to time. Now, getting it out for new MOT, find there is no oil pressure on guage and oil light on - plus tappety noises.

Options seem to be oil pressure sender, poss blown gasket producing tappety sounds, worn oil pump gears.

Mechanic is currently investigating oil pressure sender, filter etc., and does not think tappety sound is blown gasket.

Have checked through some of the forum archive to obtain above info. Any ideas from you chaps would be most welcome.

Cheers!
JJ

Agree with above, tappet noise probably confirms nill oil pressure so not switch or senser etc.

Search under oil pump priming - best method is to take filter off and prime pump by pouring oil down pipe.

Has anything changed since last run - oil/filter change or dizzy removed (oil pump drive)

This method worked for me.
well I took one of the hoses off and used a ATF bottle filled with oil, and put the end into the hose and pumped the oil in that way.

The other thing you can do is take the plugs out and kick it over until the gauge moves.
