high torque starter motor?
Discussion
My wedge sailed through its MOT again today with nothing needed
...
but I think the starter motor is getting a bit tired as it cranks very slowly when the engine is hot. Has anyone tried a geared high torque starter motor on their wedge and are they any good? They seem to be smaller, lighter and use less juice than the original so seem a bit of a no-brainer?
Cheers,
Chris

Managed to source a jap made high-torque geared starter in the end for £100. Engine now cranks hot or cold at previously unheard of speeds ... hot-start problem solved
.
The new starter fits in the available space with room to spare - the old lucas starter that was jammed in had a chunk filed off the solenoid to avoid fouling the exhaust!
I sourced the starter from a local racing/classic car specialist that now use nothing else in all the old Jaguars etc they maintain. The starter is made specifically for TVRs with Rover v8s and I believe is a "Wasp no.38".
