This is really just to satisfy my own curiosity, but I've done a search on the forum for anything to do with rust in the outriggers or sill tubing for wedges, and everything I've found suggests that the sill tubing is round. I was checking my chassis today for rust and my sill tubing is square. Another difference I have noticed is the sill plates for mounting the body. On the photographs I have found they are at approx. 20 degrees to the vertical. Mine are horizontal and the body sits on top of them. Is the 400SE chassis different to the 350i or is my chassis an odd one? Does anyone else have a chassis similar to mine?

Hi
The 400se chassis does have square outriggers with the 350i been round tube. The 350i & 400se chassis's are different and where outriggers are concerned the big difference is that a 350i can be repaired by taking off the sills, but a 400se will need a body lift to repair or replace the outriggers.

If you are coming the the Wedgefest this weekend then Gandalf has an example of a not so perfect pair already cut off to show what good tin worm is.

I hope that helps

I thought that with the 400 you can repair them without taking the body off ? But yes they are square tube with flat plates for body attachment

I have had the corners done on the car. It was suggested that they could be done as a whole, on the car?

Front corner.

My car had the outriggers and mounting plates repaired/replaced using the 'bodylift' method.

All shiny and red from end to end now. smile
