Can't believe the factory made the struts, they are fairly standard items finding the correct 'power' is the problem.
A previous post identified a supplier who would pressurise to order.
Can't find the post maybe beyond the 2yr cut off.

Try TVR carparts

When I acquired my car, it only had one support and I had to use a piece of wood to prop it whilst I pressed the release. Now I have two and everything is perfect even with the large spoiler. I don't believe the extra support was anything special. I'll mail you some photographs.

I thought you could buy adjustable struts from someone like Maplins and they are downwards adjustable..

You let the pressure out until it's enough .. too must and its too weak and your problem..

Fiesta is too strong a strut as well, tried that.

Spent ages looking around scrap yard to see markings on struts and found none compatable to hold a flimy fiberglass boot and spoiler compared to the weight of a hatchback with glass
In the end got some from someone on here breaking a tasmin smile

If you have a bonnet strut that's getting weak, take that off and put it on the boot.

Then get fresh ones for the bonnet - RPI probably do them.

Carob,

I did a search and found plenty of info on this thread

Leorest - details the strut spec..might be worth checking the front and back are the same .. and as Adam says - perhaps replace the front with new and put the front struts on the back .. unless you have a SE$AC spoiler of course smile

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Also - looks like this place can supply just about any spec

Guuna give the swap around a shot see what happens.

I only have the 400 spoiler on the back soo the weight shoul not be a problemo.

I must say Wyn the Griff looks very nice indeed....scratchchin

Tempting very tempting.

daewoo matiz rear glass hatch struts are slightly longer than the originals but fit ok on a MK1 boot. Fittings are identical. Rated at 150N not the originals 100N.

My boot flies up too since I took the old strutts to my local agricultural dealer who matched them up with some new ones , they all have numbers on them as well as just measuring them to get correct length. Also have sorted the bonnet ones too .

Yup, get down the scrappy, Mk 2 Cavalier hatch struts are a direct fit but are somewhat stronger than the originals, they will lift the boot at the touch of the button even with a SE spoiler fitted. Mine started to slightly bulge the body by the hinges after 3 years so I fitted big washers underneath. I took the struts off completely when I laid the car up for the winter.......nearly 3 years ago!paperbag
