I'm in the process of removing the steering rack, and I'm struggling to disconnect it from the steering column. I've undone the bolt on the UJ but the column shaft is obviously well rusted in there. I'm a bit worried about setting upon it with a hammer as I don't want to break the UJ. Have other people had this problem, and how did you get around it? I'm sure the answer will be brute force, but I've given up for today as I'm up to my armpits in power steering fluid and lost skin from several fingers.

I tried forcing a screwdriver into the split, but, after taking a chunk out of my finger, it was only a half hearted attempt. I have removed the bolt fully. Round two tonight.

Mole grip on the shaft. Hit mole grips with hammer. If mole grips slide, reapply them a bit tighter.
