Sorry, yet another question!

I have a very nice decent sized stone built barn, which is where the Wedge would go if/when I get one. The door into it was built for a cart! (it is 200+ years old) and I need to know if a Wedge would fit.

The doorway is 74" wide. Google tells a Wedge is 68" wide (is that including mirrors?) so it should fit, however, have a look at this:

(Sorry about the poor picture: taken on my phone in the failing light).

As you can see, there is a row of bricks set into the floor to stop the rain water running into the barn (the ground outside slopes towards the barn).

The bricks are 4" wide, about 2" drop on the outside of the barn and about a 4" drop on the inside (that's a total of a 4" drop, 2" down the bricks then another 2" down the sloping concrete you can see leading away from the bricks). Would a Wedge get over this, or would something underneath foul on the bricks once the front wheels are over?

Thanks.

i would be tempted to put a length of wood down to help with the drop, not sure on the width though

They are double doors, and only one side is open in the photo. 74" wide: isn't that wide enough for a Wedge?

mine is about 78" including the mirrors, sorry, if you had an older one with folding mirrors it might fit.

Damn.

Does this mean I can't get a Wedge (I want a 390/400) in my barn? frown

I can't really keep it outside, I'll look like a damn used car lot hehe

Don't 390/400s have folding mirrors then?

Do I have to buy a Spitfire now? frown

Shaving 2" of either side of the stonework sounds a better option than buying a spitfire to me!!

If the problem is with the mirrors, and your revering is accurate so you don't scrape the sides, why not just alter the two stones at mirror height to allow them to fit in?

As for the bricks at the bottom, you probably need them to stop water getting in, but I agree, put down a couple of ramps if you need to, especially on the inside to keep the spoiler off the ridge.

Just propped a couple of broom sticks up against my mirrors & measured the distance & mine is 74 inches, so you'll have to take a square notch out of your blocks either side where the mirrors are. Job done. thumbup

My garage door (standard 7' size) is indeed 84" wide, and that seems tight enough.

A 390/400 is approx. 74" across the mirrors, so some demolition work will be involved I'm afraid, as mirrors do not move. frown

Re-measured my doorway: it is 74" dead.

I can't do anything to the stone work (it is listed, and my wife would kill me) and anyway, the doors open like this:

(just not as grand wink ) and so the gap between the doors themselves is 74" wide. I can't attack 200 year old doors, just to make a Wedge fit.

Gutted.

I'll have to put my plans on hold for the moment, whilst I think about this.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far.

How about fitting some of these modern mirrors that appear to fold in when the ignition is turned off? You would fit the car over the bricks but you'd have to drive very slowly so that the suspension doesn't bounce but a nice bit of granno screed would cure that problem.
