Hi
My new winter project 350i is a 1988 series 2 and the layout of the water pipes are so differant from my num 1! I am not certain what I have on the new car is correct The "Bible" pic of the water system are not very clear as well. Has anybody got some good pic they can e-mail me! Its mainly the pipe runs from the header tank to plenium, to water pump area etc which is causing the confusion.

V8 wedge cooling systems have some slightly esoteric plumbing in them...
The header tank has connections to:
-Radiator top stub
-Swanneck filler cap in front of the engine + tees into the silly hotspot under the throttle body and an air bleed stub on the waterpump housing, plus I think another bleed stub on top of the inlet manifold.
I would keep the connection to the rad and to the waterpump and manifold air bleeds, but remove the hotspot and the associated plumbing.
I would also use new water hose when replumbing and replace the hose connectors. They are made by a company in Greenham near Newbury called Normaplast, and are available from your motor factor, as is the hose.
