Hi anyone ever fitted a 10000 ohms resistor to there cts. read on a sd1 forum that rover recommended that the dealers were told to fit them when some of the cars were over fuelling on cold starts.
No but on the 390SE, which does over fuel, I just disconnected the cold start injector and now all is fine. The CSI only operates for around 12 seconds on cranking..Unplugging the CTS or CSI is abnormal as its there for a reason....Its not a choke as such just a bit more fuel...I would check the EAV valve to make sure its not stuck closed as this is the only thing that equals out the fuel in the way of air as the AFM flap is not being opened, Also make sure the plug is on properly.
All RV8's start rich but even out...I would also check the condition of your spark plugs, The RV8 does not like a lot of static testing as the engine needs to be up to temperature...The plugs can foul up very quickly as I found out.
Do you have a solid state fuel pressure regulator or an adjustable?.
Also if the idle control valve has been closed right up then this could cause an even more richer mix on start up.
Check the breather on the N/S rocker, Its only a pin hole and can become blocked and cause a variety of problems as its the crankcase breather.
Check the condition of your air filter.
Wipe out your distributor cap with a little WD40...And do this on a quarterly basis.
The cleaning of all plug connectors including the ECU is a good thing...Contact cleaner and electrical lube is a good investment.
My 350i starts like a right pig which could be..And I say..."Could be"...low compression..An electrical fault...A valve...Or simply the nature of the beast.
It is very easy to make a mountain out of a mole hill as I have done myself and seen many times on here.
The main thing is that it runs right when warmed up.....

I thought that the cold start injector was more for sub zero temps and removal for the uk climate was ok to do. rover themselves recommended a resistor on the cts to the dealers for cold start issues at the time. all be without saying what caused the problem in the first place.
TBH...Ive never noticed any difference with it connected or dis-connected...The resistor fools the ECU into thinking the engine is already warm...If yours is over-fuelling I wouldn't of thought that the CSI would of made much difference???You can disconnect the CTS when starting from cold and then plug it back in when warmed up...
Don't get the CTS and CSI mixed up!
The 10k modification would appear to be for the CTS only, to weaken the mixture a little, in case the CTS is too aggressive.
I haven't tried it but it would appear to be worth a go and very easy to remove if it causes other problems.
It might even be worth starting with a trimpot (say a 22k one) and tweaking it to find the optimum value for your car, then putting in the closest fixed resistor.

fitted a 10000 ohms resistor to the cts today. great improvement on start up idles straight away. no over fuelling no need to rev the engine on start up. rover were doing this back in 1988 when cars were under warranty so a 30 year old tvr may benefit from this if your car over fuels on start up. thought i would share maybe worth giving it a go. cost pennies for the resistor.

Thanks for posting up the findings....
