Thanks Martin.
I did the check before posting on here. I bought it in late '96 I think and did a lot of work to it before selling it on, then, not long after I sold it it appeared in Pratical Classics March 2001.

It is a lovely looking car and you had done a great job on the restoration, i hope it is still looking as good now and that you track it down, i remember that magazine article in my hoard of mags will have to find it and have another read.

Thanks Martin.
I am now on my fifth TVR but AVG 721X has always been special to me.
That pic is from my copy of the magazine. I won't get rid of it. smile

Might it be worth contacting the TVRCC and see if it belongs to a member?

What are you going to do now that you have found it?...Bit sad but all is not lost...Looks like someone changed the fuel filter and used the alloy nut on it as a lever to tighten the banjo fitting...BIG MISTAKE!!!...The plastic fuel pipes are still available in a kit apparently and there is even the option of kunifer copper...Thinks its a little on the high side price wise but its the modern world...

Hi Mark,
I wasn't intending to buy it - definitely not at £5k for a Cat C, especially from that particular seller - I was just interested to see how it had faired since I sold it in 2000.
I find it sad that the changes since my ownership are not, in my opinion, for the better.
I did a lot of work on it to bring it up to scratch back in the late 90s. The decals on the front bib, front wings below the stripe and rear end were not my doing! Nor was the bloody great fan on the centre console, the crappy wooden steering wheel, the tacky golf ball gearknob and it's wooden surround, the non-standard switches on the trans tunnel and definitely not the seat belt warmer or the dodgy wiring hanging down in the driver's footwell. The wheels have been re-painted, incorrectly, the mudflaps were not my doing either and the headlamp pods are mal-adjusted. How very sad! The hood looks good though.
I suppose you have to be careful what you wish for. smile

Yes its sad about this car but that is what can happen when we sell a car, we hope people keep the car in a nice state but every one has there own idea of what they want to do even if it can become tacky, at least it is still in reasonable condition. But even a car in very good condition can end up being scraped a few years later if owned by someone who treats it badly, ok if it is a classic that is worth a lot of money it would be safe but 280is are staying at low prices so are in danger of being broken for parts that is why i would keep a car even if i was not using it if i had the space and it was under cover even just run the engine for 20 min once a month to save it for the future. Even 70s wedge Bond Bugs are now in demand and rising fast in price. The seller of this 280i also has a silver 280i for sale an early x reg also they say the car is quite good with electrics that been done and a good engine but the engine bay looks rough and it has not been on the road since 2001, they want £2,220 for it, i bet it ends up not being sold and broken up for parts they are a TVR breaker with parts from the newer TVRs everywhere.

I know what you're saying Martin, I was just shocked when I saw the reality of what had become of the car.

Funny, I saw it on eBay a while back. Thought it looked decent before seeing how you had it back when it was in the magazine. Was the color changed? I also really like that style of road wheel...the best wheel for a Wedge in my lousy opinion. They really never look proper when artistic liberties are taken. No one seems to take the time to paint the black background.
