Bad Earth!

My Tasmin has been living outside for a couple weeks in the elements and had noticed my fuel gauge had not moved for a couple of days resulting in me running out of petrol tonight (at the petrol station thank god) and I've also noticed tonight the brake lights are staying on making me think an earth needs cleaning up. Is there one towards the rear of car?

If the brake lights are on then they have an earth.

Maybe the pedal is slightly depressed - try lifting it with your foot - do they go out? If so it might be the switch next to the pedal needs adjusting a little.

Is the fuel gauge stuck somewhere above empty? With the ignition off, too?

I already tried the pedal pull and they stayed on.
The fuel gauge was stuck with ignition off and has now gone up after I filled the tank.
