Have now sorted all the main electrical issues out on my FHC after a good few hours today, just the windows to sort.

Moving on to the breaks now, got the front callipers off as both seized, not sure what to do with them, are they worth getting cleaned and fixed or is there other callipers out there which maybe better?

I had my standard calipers refurbished last year at a cost of £126.00 excluding the pads so this seems like a very good deal.

Can't see from your photo, does Tasmin have vented discs or are they normal P16 calipers common to many older Fords, MGB Triumph etc?

Unless they are really, completely seized, the. Pop the Pistons out.

If their is no corrosion or damage, they will be fine. Get a new seal kit and scrape any crap out of the bore that might have built up between the seal and the dust cap.

Did the same on my 911 with sticking brakes, been fine for 8 years now.

Of course, replace any flexible lines

Strange? I'm guessing its "old school", discs bolted to back of the hubs, none is that silly modern stuff with discs that fall off when you remove the caliper wink

Hi

They sound like standard S1 brake disc's even 350i originally had the same.

To remove the disc's is easy, there are five recessed bolts (Between the wheel studs) undo those and the disc will separate from the hub. But first you have to remove the hub from the stub axle.

Hi mate

You could have a look here...
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=...
Also the standard callipers can have a spacer fitted to accommodate a larger vented disc from a 2.8i Granada estate (rear), I did this on the 350i and it does make a difference, albeit not dramatic....smile

Hope it helps....

Yeah look like standard early M16 calipers (Cortina, Granada) and should be able to get them refurbed.

Here is a photo of the discs fitted, apart from the rust they don't look to bad.

Got to do the rear ones as well, look a right pain to get to and work on !

Is it the 5 Gold colour bolts I need to remove to get the disc off?

Do you need them off ?

They look fine, with no visible lip ?

I do think the discs are actually ok, I'll just give them a good clean.

Got the rear calipers off ( what a job!), are the xj6 jag items? They are not to bad, but if I can find new ones all the better.
